Pamela Girvin: My grandma and my idol in life. She is the most crucial person to my character in life. I learned how to be a good person and how to treat everyone with respect from her.
Every year we go on a beach trip with the whole family. Each of the 4 grandkids is allowed to take 2 of our friends with us.
"Do any of your friends want me to make their favorite meals or do they need any spending money for while we are down here?" my grandma pleaded, seemingly begging for us to accept her offers. "While you guys are under my supervision, you are all family to me. I will take care of you." she said to my friends.
That was just how my grandma acted around everyone. She believed that everyone deserved the same love and attention. She showed that with her warm hugs and gleaming smile. Every morning we woke up bright and early to the sweet smell of chocolate chip pancakes and the savory scent of bacon. She always prepared enough food for a small army. Although she was close to 70 years old, you wouldn't be able to tell with her vibrant energy and child-like carefree approach to the world.
Living in York, she worked as a mail lady. Her contagious attitude made her well known on her postal routes. It got to the point where people would come out to greet her when she would drop off mail. She became a part of these peoples' routines whenever they were expecting a package.
Her goal in life was to make sure that everyone was satisfied in her presence. At times she cared more about the people around her and we would have to remind her to take some time for himself.
She was a star of the show in every aspect. She planned out and hosted all of our family events. She was the main reason some of our older family members would travel for reunions. Without her I don't believe our family would be as close knit. I am forever grateful for my grandma.
