The Cameron Crazies

At Cameron Indoor Stadium, the Cameron Crazies fill the stands court side. "Inside the arena, they live on the side of the court and behind the basket. Outside, they live in Krzyzewskiville, a community where students camp before games to reserve a spot" (Grobeck). They taunt opposing teams by waving their arms, chanting things like "Air ball," and covering themselves from head to toe in Duke blue. For the Blue Devils, they provide a home court  advantage with their support and enthusiasm.

The Cameron Crazies hold signs in honor of Krzyzewski's 1000th win.
As for Coach K, the Cameron Crazies serve as an extra layer of defense, instilling nerves into the visitors with the loudness and intensity of the gymnasium. "Their influence on opponents derives from organized chants aimed at players and coaches. Before each game, members of the section, which can hold about 1,200 students, are issued 'dirt sheets' containing embarrassing details about players and potential chants" (Grobeck). They throw shots at opposing coaches, yet honor and support Coach K with their school spirit. To the Cameron Crazies, Mike Krzyzewski is their hero. leading the Blue Devils to five national championships.

This game will also be his final regular season game, only upping the importance to die hard fans. Ticket prices have reached $500,000, more than the cost of an NBA game. Herb Neubauer, Duke's "crazy towel guy," says that "I'm a Duke fan - hard core. There is no way that I would sell my ticket. So, if anybody is watching, keep your money" (Kreuger).
