    Hocus Pocus is a movie made in 1993 and directed by Kenny Ortega in Salem Massachusetts. The movie is based on 3 witches that were executed for their crimes in the 17th century. These three witches are Winifred Sanderson (Bette Midler), Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker), and Mary Sanderson (Kathy Najimy). The story is that a virgin named Max Denison (Omri Katz) moved to Salem with his family and sister Dani (Thora Birch) and lit the black flame candle that brings the Sanderson sisters back to life after 300 years of death. His later goal is to defeat the witches save his sister and other children from the grasp of the witches. He does this with the help of a black cat named Thackery Binx (Sean Murray) which was turned into a cat by the Sanderson sisters 300 years ago, a zombie named Billy Butcherson (Doug Jones) which was killed and had his mouth sewn by Winifred Sanderson herself, and a friend/crush from school Allison (Vinessa Shaw).


    There are many forms of fandom for this extremely iconic film. One of the ways would be through cosplay. Many Hocus Pocus fans choose to dress up as the characters. The characters used the most would be the Sanderson sisters. Most people dress up as the sisters during Halloween for events such as parades, trick or treating, and parties. Even though the movie was created about 28 years ago it's even popular with the younger children of today.

      The merchandise is also another big part of the fandom of Hocus Pocus. A lot of stores sell these products but one of the biggest stores known for selling the merch is Spirit Halloween. There are many forms of merchandise for this film. Some include cups, posters, signs, costumes, and clothes. Many people have big collections of this movie to show their love of the film. I have started a huge collection of Hocus Pocus merchandise. My love for the movie began when I was young and my aunt kept playing the movie over and over. I have watched the movie over a million times and I can recite every word.

  The love for Hocus Pocus grows as fans continue to create groups on social media to widely spread their love for the movie. People post photos of their cosplay and what they enjoy about the movie. They even show the merchandise they bought and even give hints to others to purchase them. On these pages, people even create and sell their creations of the movie. Many people sell shirts, mugs, and jewelry. They use sites like Etsy, eBay, Facebook, and Amazon. 

    The biggest form of fandom is that people from all over come and visit Salem Massachusetts where the movie was filmed. Many people take photos and post them all over to spread the news. Couples tend to go there and get married at iconic locations. Some locations are Max Dennison's house, Allison's house, and the witches museum, or the Sanderson sister's house. There are also tours that you can go on to learn about the creation and locations of the film. During Halloween, many witchy events are held in Salem and many Hocus Pocus lovers attend and even some wear costumes. 

    The fandom will even get larger since Hocus Pocus 2 is in the making and scheduled for release in December 2022. The film is not taking place in Salem but in Road Island so who knows maybe this will be another vacation fan spot. The movie will even consist of the three main characters Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy. This will widen the range of fans in many ages since it is a Disney Pixar movie and will be released to Disney+ before anything.

The One Who Fills a Void

       One day I was spending time in Benton at my uncle's house like I do often. Me and him were working on a 1948 John Deere G that he had bought in the 70's and is now mine. My uncle is an older gentleman who was never married and never had kids, so I am almost the closest thing he has ever had to a son or grandson. Which after my grandfathers passed away years ago, he really filled the void and became almost more like a grandfather figure in way. On this particular day we were trying to clean up the tractor after it was caught in a flood. My uncle was a truck driver and a diesel mechanic his whole life and has a small shop in his backyard full of expensive tools that had almost all gotten caught in the flood waters. We had already spent days cleaning the shop and the tools. At this point we were both getting tired and discouraged. My Best Friend

"A sister is someone that is not only your sister but a best friend." That is what Julie, my sister, and I always say because we are truly best friends. We do everything together. We are only 17 months apart in age. My mom would always dress us in the same outfit when we were little and everyone would always ask if we were twins. Julie is someone that I always want by my side, which has made it hard and extremely different since I have moved into college. We have made so many memories together and get along so well.
